Sometimes I even surprise myself

So my goal on the Freedom Run 5k was to beat the time that I did in the SLC's 5k last April. I had been practicing, but it didn't seem like I was making that much progress. I really was hoping to beat my time by at least 5 minutes, focusing on the progress I've made rather than the total time it takes me to walk/run it. I really pushed myself during the race, I was quite surprised by the amount I was able to run compared to when I've been training. It was thrilling to be apart of this mass of people, all with the same goal. As I turned the corner to the finish line and saw the clock, I was a bit surprised. I started calculating how much time it had taken me, considering I had started further back in the crowd from the starting line. I was even more surprised to calculate that I had knocked 9 minutes of my last time! I was thrilled! I couldn't believe it!

Well, today I was finally able to check the official "chip" time and no it wasn't 9 minutes.... it was 12!!... Hmmm, I think I've caught the running/race bug.....

Are you smarter than a 4th grader?

Every morning I listen to KBull 93 while I am getting ready for the day. Well, for the past few days they have been playing the "Are you smarter than my 4th grader?" where one of the Dj's has his daughter ask a question and people call in to see if they can answer it. The question was, "What do former Pres. Bush (the son), Robert De Niro, and Uncle Kevin have in common? (Kevin being the girl's uncle, the dj's bro-in-law).

So this has been the question that has been on the past few mornings because no one was getting it. Well this morning as I was driving to work, they played it again and so I called in and got it right! WAHOO! I won tickets to the Days of '47 rodeo.... pretty cool for someone that doesn't typically win things like this.

What do you think they all have in common?

The Price of Freedom

Gearing up for the fourth, I thought that I would share something that a friend posted on facebook and his family's blog. He served in Iraq a few years ago and that is when he wrote this. So, go here if you want to read it. I know Matt from the accounting program at BYU, as well as he is related to someone I'm related to... :)
